I have close to 10 years experience in photography, and particularly enjoy photographing animals, sculptures and portraits. Several awards from local competitions in Hong Kong have been kind validations of my interests.

In recent years, I have photographed museum objects for collections catalogues, and worked with external photographers to produce publicity images for museum objects. I also produced the portraits and team photos for the co-curated student exhibition,    I Was Here: Hidden Messages from Durham's Archaeology.

I was introduced to photo-masking in 2017. In 2018, I learnt about photo-scanning and how to make 3D-models with Agisoft Photoscan.

With both the Museum of Archaeology (Durham University) and the University Museum and Art Gallery (University of Hong Kong), I have led efforts in 3D-digitizing permanent collections.

With the rapid developments of COVID-19, 3D-modelling has turned out to be crucial to the continuity of both exhibitions and public education.

rti imaging

Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI) images are created through collating many photographs shot from a still position, with a constantly shifting light source. They allow for the interpretation of (for example) otherwise illegible inscriptions.

I first learnt to capture RTI images in 2017 with RTIBuilder. Using homemade equipment, I have since been able to create my own RTI images, utilising them in my research.

In 2019 I received training on illustrating museum objects and archaeological finds. Apart from drawing on paper, I am able to create object illustrations with ProCreate, Adobe Illustrator and Google Drawing.

Museums are experimenting with the digital world, and it's important to know what is being done well, and what can be done better. In 2017, I learnt to obtain open-source data and analyse the effectiveness of museum social media accounts.

Using the programming language R, I have been evaluating the social media presence of Durham University's museums this year, and the effectiveness of the marketing for the I Was Here exhibition. Analysing over 1.4 million Tweets, this process can generate simple graphical representations of complex data, such as Twitter user-interaction network graphs.
