Moderating Entries

Durham at War

2018

Durham at War is a crowdsourced First World War centenary project, supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and run by Durham County Council between 2014-2018.

I worked with the numerous volunteers affiliated with the program, both in person and remotely, to moderate and edit their contributions to the project. The entries concerned were primarily biographical accounts of Durham residents who had served during the First World War. Apart from editing syntax, I also had to consult the archival resources available to me for fact-checking, before publishing the entries.

Discovering England's Burial Spaces

2018

I was trained to record gravestones and built memorials to the standards outlined by Historic England's Discovering England's Burial Spaces project. For a research paper, I chose to record and research the memorial for a former pastor of St. Oswald's Parish, Durham. Within this capacity, I had the fortune of working with the parish archivist, accessing unique archival resources to rediscover the pastor who dedicated much of his career to improving the parish in the early 20th century.

Crowdsourced 3D Models

MicroPasts

2017

Led by a founder of MicroPasts, I helped create a photomasking application. This would allow the volunteers on MicroPasts to generate photomasks, which can then be layered to form a 3D model. With over 100 contributions from around the world, the application reached 100% completion within two weeks' time and a 3D model of a mortar was created.
