Creating Isla the Future Curator
I Was Here: Hidden Messages from Durham's Archaeology
Museum of Archaeology, Durham University
2020

This exhibition is co-curated by a team of 7 students on the MA Museum and Artefact Studies course in Durham University. We were keen to introduce a mascot for our learning resources, which catered to as many abilities and needs as possible.

In my capacity as lead of the Education Team, I have had the privilege of working with several teachers in schools in Morpeth, Northumberland and Consett, County Durham. Taking their invaluable advice into account, Isla the Future Curator was created, alongside ten other learning resources. Isla's role was to introduce the practices of curating and collections management, as well as brief introductions to the science of conservation for older age groups.

Learning Delivery
Education, Learning and Engagement Team,
Library and Collections Department, Durham University
2019–2020

As a voluntary learning delivery assistant, I gained experience in delivering hands-on, collections-based learning within Durham University's museums:
-
Oriental Museum
-
Museum of Archaeology
-
Palace Green Library and Durham Castle

I have over 300+ hours of experience with the team, working with schools across Yorkshire, County Durham and Northumberland. Apart from assisting the delivery of sessions, I have also helped setting up teaching spaces and materials for sessions suited to Key Stages 1-3, and University students of all levels.
